Description
Scott’s Run trail is located in the mountains to the north of Steamboat Springs. A fire swept through this area in 2003 (the Hinman Fire) and burned sections the trail, adding to the allure of the area.
Featuring a gradual ascent with one steep section, Scott’s Run weaves through burn, pine forest and aspen groves. Along the way Scott’s Run passes Hinman Lake. There are sections of Blow Down on Scott’s Run trail so portages over downed trees may be necessary. In addition there are several stream crossing along the way.
There is a maze of trails in the Scott’s run area and a trail-map makes navigation much easier. Pick one up in Steamboat Springs.

Scott’s Run Trail is multi-use so riders may encounter hikers, trail runners, vehicles and other users and should follow right of way protocol when meeting other groups. Scott’s Run Trail is high elevation and can experience sudden weather shifts, so riders should bring appropriate warm layers in anticipation of this. In addition, riders should be prepared with a stocked repair kit, first aid kit and extra food and water. A map is a handy piece of equipment on the Scott’s Run Trail. Basic Directions
From Steamboat Springs drive north 19 miles on CR129-Elk River Road to the town of Clark. Take a right on Seedhouse Road and look for the parking area at Hinman Campground. Park here and go north on Wyoming Trail 1101. Follow to FS Road 1177. End of ride ends up on Seedhouse Road.
