Description

The Gauley River in Fayetteville, West Virginia, is ranked in the top ten rivers in the world for whitewater rafting! The river’s popularity is in part due to the huge amount of water released from the Summersville Dam in September and October. This world class river offers lots of options for all types of rafting experiences on its three different segments: The Upper, The Lower, and The Middle.

The Middle Segment is the most laid back of the three segments running six miles on class I-III rapids. This segment is a lot of fun between its rapids, pools for floating and splashing wars, and some great beaches for sunny lunch breaks. The rapids include Julie’s Juicer, Ender Rapids, and Backender. There is also the famous "Jump Rock” to play on and show off your aerial prowess.

This is a must do river for families or first time rafters. The scenery adds to the experience as well with its steep cliffs and awesome sandstone along the whole way. Make sure to sign up early for a tour though because they fill up fast. The season is from September to October and the age requirement for the Middle segment is twelve years old.
