Princeton, New Jersey Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Princeton is most notable for two things. It is home to the prestigious Ivy League school, Princeton University, and was scientific genius Albert Einstein's former residence. Princeton is generally considered a haven for academia and its downtown area exhibits all the qualities of a college town, with cafes, bars and coffee shops lining the streets. Princeton is full of historic neighborhoods with sprawling brick residences on tree lined streets.

Just outside Princeton is Lake Carnegie, where Princeton's crew team works their rowing muscles. Boating is popular here in the spring, with visitors lining the lake's perimeter to watch the competitions.

The Morven Museum and Garden is a Princeton landmark, built in the 18th century, by Declaration of Independence signer, Richard Stockton. Inside are relics of New Jersey's history and a historic garden is open for viewing in the back of the mansion. Princeton Battlefield State Park is an 85-acre park and national historic landmark just south of the university, offering cross-country skiing, hiking and picnicking.

Princeton has a variety of outdoor activities from kayaking on Lake Carnegie to golfing, bird watching Herrontown Woods, or biking along the Delaware and Raritan Canal.

Princeton is located in central New Jersey, just south of New Brunswick. NJ Transit and Amtrak serve the Princeton area, and it is accessible by car on the NJ Turnpike as well the Garden State Parkway on the eastern border of the region.
